In 2007, a group of doctors and business leaders in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV) identified a need for local attention and emphasis on diabetes awareness for its residents. They joined forces to create the Rio Grande Valley Diabetes Association (RGVDA) as an independent local, not for profit organization for Hidalgo County, Texas. The association’s services are tailored specifically for the residents of the RGV and guarantees that all the funds generated by the RGVDA are used for the residents of the RGV. This is the second organization of this nature in Texas.
The mission of the RGVDA is dedicated to the prevention of diabetes and its complications through educational services, early detection, and awareness.
