Rio Grande Valley Diabetes Association Announces the 5th Celebrity Waiter Fundraiser Event, March 6 that Krysta’s Event Center in Mission, Texas Mission, Texas – January 13, 2025 – The Rio Grande Valley Diabetes Association (RGVDA) is thrilled to announce its 5th Annual Celebrity Waiter Fundraiser, taking place on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Krysta’s Event Center in Mission, Texas. This exciting event will bring together local celebrities, community members, and diabetes advocates for an evening of fun, entertainment, and philanthropy. The Celebrity Waiter Fundraiser features beloved local personalities serving as waiters, providing guests with a unique dining experience while raising awareness and funds for diabetes education, prevention, and management programs in the Rio Grande Valley. Attendees will enjoy a delicious meal, live entertainment, and the enjoyment of seeing their favorite local stars in action.

One of this year’s celebrities is: Armando J. Marroquin. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1998. He then completed a J.D. at Texas Southern University. Thurgood Marshall School of Law, in 2003. As a law student, Marroquin clerked at the United States Immigration and Naturalization Services’ Appeals Office in Houston.
He is licensed to appear before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas and the United States District Court for the Western District of Texas.
After graduating from law school, Marroquin began his legal career as an assistant district attorney with the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office. He prosecuted juvenile, misdemeanor, and felony cases until 2007, at which time he opened his own private practice. While in private practice he handled a broad range of civil, family and criminal matters in Hidalgo County.
Marroquin and his wife, Sonia, have three children. The family resides in Edinburg, Texas and attends Holy Spirit Catholic Church in McAllen.

Another Celebrity Waiter is Sally Fausto Guerra. Sally has been a Real Estate Broker at Coldwell Banker La Mansion for over 20 years. In addition, she is the Owner/Publisher of SOCIALIFE RGV Magazine.
Sally has wholeheartedly embraced giving back to the community by volunteering in numerous committees, boards, associations, schools, galas, and charities. Most recently, the University of TX System Chancellor’s Council Executive Committee. Within the public-school system, she served on the Sharyland ISD Education Foundation Board for 7 years. She is currently serving on the board of the McAllen ISD Education Foundation. Sally was awarded as the 2019 Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Businesswoman the Year and is also the McAllen Chamber of Commerce Woman of the Year 2020/2021.
Sally is married to David Guerra, former President/CEO of IBC Bank, and together have 5 children and 3 grandchildren. Sally has been a past celebrity dancer for RGVDA and won 1st place in 2008 and 1st place in the 10th Anniversary competition. She has been a judge for “Dancing with the Stars” gala for 12 years and Diabetes Hero of the Year for 2023.
Also participating are Mayor Norie Garza, Olivia Lucio Boys and Girls Club of Edinburg Chief Development Office, Attorney Ruben Ramirez, McAllen Commissioner Omar Quintanilla, and Brianna Perez, All State Insurance Agent.
“Each year, this event grows in popularity and significance,” said Diana Ramirez, Executive Director of the RGVDA. “We are incredibly grateful for the support from our community and local celebrities who make this evening possible. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those affected by diabetes in our region.”
